For a safer workplace and stronger community response, JHMC staff joined a Basic Life Support (BLS) refresher today, led by the Emergency Response Team. The training equips more staff, beyond the core responders, with essential skills to act confidently in real-life emergencies, whether within office premises or out in the field.
The training included the following: scene safety and initial assessment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques, choking management, and activation of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The JHMC Emergency Response Team has already proven its capacity to respond, having responded to two separate incidents outside the Camp John Hay area. In both cases, the team met the minimum required response time, demonstrating their readiness and efficiency.
Also, the team reminded the public to use emergency hotlines responsibly. A recent prank call from a trekker at the Camp John Hay Yellow Trail wasted JHMC resources and could have delayed help for real emergencies.
