JHMC, DENR, BWD, WWRRDEC, High Hopes for Sustainable Water

Camp John Hay, Baguio City – In a significant step towards addressing water scarcity and enhancing sustainable water management, the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB), Watershed and Water Resources Research Development and Extension Center (WWRRDEC), recently convened a meeting with the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) and Baguio Water District (BWD) earlier
today, January 11, 2023.  The focus of the meeting was to deliberate on the former’s research project proposal titled “Surface Run-Off Water Harvesting Technology for Water Supply in Camp John Hay Catchment Areas.”

Attending the meeting were DENR Undersecretary for Integrated Environmental Science, Carlos Primo C. David, BWD General Manager Salvador M. Royeca, and JHMC EAMD Manager, Engr. Bobby V. Akia, as well as staff from these concerned offices.

Based on the proposal, the initiative includes the development of a localized green-gray infrastructure that is intended to collect and hold water runoff from different surfaces in the catchment areas. The technology under consideration could prove instrumental in ensuring a reliable and sustainable water source for not only Camp John Hay but also for the residents of its neighboring communities, especially during the dry season.

The meeting was concluded with a collaborative assessment of the catchment areas to see if the proposed research project could be pioneered and carried out. END
