JHMC and BFP-BCFS Conduct 3-Day Fire Brigade and Forest Firefighting Training

The John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), in partnership with the Baguio City Fire Station (BFP-BCFS), successfully concluded a three-day fire brigade and forest firefighting training program held from November 17 to 19 at the JHMC Old Office and VOA Loghomes area.

The training equipped JHMC Emergency Responders and Firefighters with essential skills in fire safety, fire truck operations, and emergency response techniques. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises on operating firefighting equipment, executing suppression methods for structural fires, and applying emergency protocols in workplace and community settings. The program also emphasized coordination among company fire brigades to ensure organized and timely responses to emergencies.

A vital component of the training focused on forest firefighting, particularly relevant to communities near the John Hay reservation. Topics included wildfire behavior, suppression methods tailored to forest environments, fireline construction, and safety measures to protect both responders and the public. The sessions highlighted the challenges of forest fire management, stressing vigilance, teamwork, and specialized knowledge to safeguard lives, property, and natural resources.

Aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for stronger community-based initiatives, the program reinforced JHMC’s commitment to preparedness and environmental stewardship. Employees of JHMC’s Safety and Security Department (SSD) and the Emergency Preparedness and Response Team not only gained technical expertise but also a deeper appreciation of their role as fire volunteers and emergency responders.

Trainees who completed the three-day training will now join Baguio City’s pool of Fire Volunteers, further strengthening protection for both workplace and forest environments against the threat of fire.
