Camp John Hay, Baguio City – September is National Clean-Up Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 244 series of 1993. At this event, communities, groups, societies, private and public entities take active participation in a nationwide voluntary activity to support the government’s clean-up and environmental greening activities.
Yearly, John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) participates in this concerted massive environmental activity. JHMC employees including its service and security providers are mobilized to take voluntary action in cleaning the canals and waterways along Loakan Road including the John Hay Special Economic Zone (JHSEZ) roadsides and waterways. Tons of solid waste like plastics, damaged kitchen wares, household wastes, and other non-biodegradable wastes are being collected in these areas.
In another effort to protect and preserve the Camp John Hay forest watershed, 1,436 Benguet Pine, Coffee, and Tibig tree seedlings were planted by JHMC inside the John Hay reservation area.
The tree planting activity conducted by the JHMC personnel is in line with Executive Order No. 26 series of 2011 or the National Greening Program. Pursuant to the said law, government employees are individually required to plant ten (10) trees every year.
As a responsible government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC), JHMC integrates activities and programs in its operations in various efforts that help in biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and adaptation.
Since 2018, JHMC is an ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management Systems) certified. The corporation continuously excels in addressing and managing its environmental responsibilities that contribute to environmental sustainability.
