JHMC Now Certified Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace

Baguio City – The Department of Health awards John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) with a Mother -Baby Friendly Certificate later this year. The Certificate was received by Allan R. Garcia, JHMC President and CEO and was witnessed by the JHMC Board of Directors.

A “mother-baby friendly” certificate means that the JHMC ensures the promotion and practice of breastfeeding in the workplace through the establishment of the lactation station.

The JHMC lactation station is open for public use. It is located at Cottage 628 at the JHMC main office, Camp John Hay. The station is well-lighted, airy and well ventilated, with comfortable chairs and side tables. It is also equipped with basic amenities such as refrigerators, breast pumps and milk storage. On its walls posted are informational materials for mothers to be reminded of the importance and benefits of breastfeeding.

The issuance of the Certificate is a confirmation of JHMC’s compliance with RA 10028 or the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009 which mandates health and non-health facilities to establish a lactation station in the workplace.

More than providing lactation service facilities to its stakeholders, JHMC encourages its locators to replicate the same to further promote and practice breastfeeding in the workplace.

The lactation station is an initiative of the JHMC-Gender and Development. END
