JHMC Reaffirms Community Commitment to Clean Air

The Environmental Management Bureau – Cordillera Administrative Region (EMB CAR) convened the 3rd Quarter BLISTT Airshed Governing Board Meeting on September 30, 2025, bringing together key stakeholders from Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay to reaffirm their shared commitment to clean air and sustainable development. Aimed at strengthening regional collaboration, the meeting served as a platform to revisit previous resolutions, present updated air quality monitoring reports, and outline unified actions moving forward.
Representatives from EMB CAR, CEPMO, local governments, and private partners,  including  JHMC  and Philex  Mining,  reiterated  their  dedication to protecting air quality across the BLISTT area through coordinated efforts and informed environmental strategies.
JHMC, represented by Environment Officer, Christopher Haban, discussed    the   Corporation’s   ongoing    environmental    management programs anchored in stewardship and ecological resilience. Among the highlighted initiatives were:
>Tree planting and forest enrichment activities, including the propagation of 6,948 native and ornamental plants and 9,250 coffee saplings
>Forest fire assessments and fireline maintenance, covering 1,172 square meters within the Camp;
>Environmental and sanitation audits for locators operating inside the John Hay Special Economic Zone;
>Collaborative research support, such as the identification of mushroom species along the Yellow Trail and the study of dried pine needles for agricultural and soil rehabilitation applications
Strengthened by partnerships with schools and civic groups, JHMC’s efforts reflect its enduring support for EMB CAR’s environmental goals. More than merely complying with regulatory requirements, these initiatives embody JHMC’s deep-rooted commitment to keeping Camp John Hay clean, green, and grounded in community values, ensuring that the BLISTT area thrives for generations to come.
