Site Development
JHMC, in coordination with BCDA, is undertaking measures to continuously develop the following areas under the Camp John Hay Reservation as part of its business strategy:
- Historical Core
JHMC aims to position the Historical Core as a holistic family destination. The Historical Core shall undergo major re-packaging to improve the existing facilities and introduce new amenities. This initiative shall launch the Historical Core as a “must-visit” location that compliments the other developments within Camp John Hay’s leased area.
- Lot 6
Lot 6, declared as Accommodation Cluster under Proclamation No. 1191, has an area of sixteen thousand eight hundred ninety (16,890) square meters more or less. At present, this area is occupied by Cottages 624, 625/626, 627/628, and 629. This is where the JHMC Offices are currently located.
- Area 1 and Area 2
The following are identified areas outside the John Hay Special Economic Zone that are suitable for development:
Area 1 is an 11.7 hectare area that shall be developed as a mixed commercial area with a flower theme park as its support facility.
Area 2 is a one hectare piece of land located at the Scout Barrio Barangay that shall be developed as a social housing and residential project.
- Camp 6
Located at the boundary of Baguio City and Tuba, Benguet, this area is approximately 8 kms from John Hay passing through Kennon Rd. The area in question is separated from Kennon Road by the Bued River and is accessible only by a hanging bridge and foot trail. Topography has steep slopes and rocky mountain sides.
The U.S. Government, while undertaking the development of Camp John Hay in 1903, considered the construction of a power plant for its supply of electricity which it eventually built at Camp 6. From then on, the Camp 6 power plant was the source of electricity exclusively for Camp John Hay considering that there was no other source at that time. The mini-hydro was destroyed during the earthquake in July 1990.
The development project for the Camp 6 area shall be geared towards eco-tourism and power generation.
- Yellow Trail
Along with Camp 6, Yellow Trail is geared for eco-tourism development as well. Gardens, aviaries, and camping sites are proposed for the area. The area is also suitable for hikers and mountain biking enthusiasts.
